Lucy’s StoryMeet my beautiful girl, Lucy! Her story isn’t your “typical” rescue story, but she needed to be rescued from her situation through no fault of her own. She was born to a breeder and she had the oddly uncommon disease called puppy strangles. It is a type of cellulitis, an infection that affects the eyes, lips and muzzle.
The breeder could not sell her, so she was going to “get rid of her.”
Too many times, if these loving little fluff balls have anything that decreases their monetary value for a breeder, the end result is cruel.
I had just lost my 5 year old chocolate lab rescue to cancer and wanted to rescue again. I came across Lucy by way of a contact who had known of this breeder and Lucy’s situation. She was just 8 weeks old when I made the journey to upstate NY to see her. I honestly didn’t know what to expect, but as soon as I saw her, the connection between the two of us was instant. Right at that moment, I knew I was not leaving without her.
Since that day, Lucy has lived a healthy, happy and amazing life! She stole my heart the moment I met her and has been my best friend and loyal companion ever since.
Dogs need us to be their voice, their advocates and they need us to be the difference between life and death.
